My cat Cayley (named after the mathematician Arthur Cayley) just turned 9 years old. She’s always been a skittish cat, probably because she was a stray when she showed up at our farm in 2016. There is one thing you can always count on with Cayley – if there is a closed door, she will freak out. She cannot stand a door to be closed.

One day, I closed the door to keep her out of her litter area so I could clean her box. This cat did everything in her power to get into this room. She scratched at the door, she put her paws under the door. She even started meowing, to which I responded, “Cayley! I’m doing something for you! I’m not going to keep you out of here but you need to wait until I’m done.” And that’s when it hit me.
The Lord softly nudged at my heart to tell me the same thing. That closed door, friend, is not the Lord keeping you from something that you think you need in this instance. It takes time to prepare that space for you to walk in. He loves us so much and wants to prepare the perfect situation for us before we move forward.
I’ll take it a step further. What was I doing in that room for my kitty? … I was cleaning up her mess! Boy, that will preach. Our God graciously and lovingly cleans up our messes – situations we find ourselves in that might require us to wait as the Lord cleans our heart to prepare us for that next open door.
Did my kitty need to use her litter box at that exact moment? Probably not. I would bet she was just being impatient in wanting to see what was on the other side of that door. I want to encourage you to wait in this season for the Lord to open that door for you. He’s preparing something special. 🙂
